Project Outreach Worker
The key purpose of my role was to be responsible for the development and delivery of outreach services offered to young people within S.W. Glasgow.
This would primarily involve implementing issue based work with young people focussing on personal and social education. The programmes I devised and implemented consisted of raising awareness of health and social implications such as alcohol misuse and bullying.

A large element of my role was to assist in the design and facilitation of Multicultural events to embrace diversity and to challenge racism. Involved in this role was to deliver ESOL classes to young people from multicultural backgrounds in the local high schools. I designed and facilitated 5 two hour lessons per week during the school calendar.

In addition, I assisted young people and members of the local community in selecting perspective career and higher education choices and CV‘s.

Another responsibility I had was to provide information and support services to young people and work in partnership with the local High Schools to organise and facilitate information road shows/displays in schools and community facilities.

Throughout the school calendar my duty was to co-ordinate, design and deliver various workshops on issues affecting young people.

An additional responsibility I had was to manage three youth provisions in a socially deprived area of Glasgow for children and young people aged 5-18 years of age. My role was to support the young people and to deliver educational lifelong learning programmes.

Moreover, the responsibility along with other team members of designing and facilitating holiday programmes.

A key responsibility I had was to deliver sexual health awareness and distribute condoms to clients.

Furthermore, I coordinated, designed and facilitated the Drama provision. Throughout the year young people who attended GYIP performed in productions that I created and directed.

An integral element of my role was to coordinate Holiday Programmes. This involved designing programme, hiring part time staff and managing the budget.

In addition, I was responsible of Inverclyde’s participation in ’The Young Scot Quality Awards’. The involved organising and facilitating a training weekend for the nominees.

An element of my role was to select young people to participate in the ’Tall Ships’ expedition. This involved training young people and applying for funding and organising fundraising events.

The key purpose of my role was to fully engage with young people in the local community and deliver within a team setting quality learning and recreational programmes relevant to the needs of young people.

I developed programmes such as a young women’s programme as it became evident that many of the young women I was working with were disaffected, disengaged and socially excluded. They were vulnerable to exploitation and criminal activity.

Another responsibility I had was to work in partnership with NCH and the local High School to design and delivery of a surviving school programme to pupils who were finding school challenging.

A key element that was identified was that many of the students were having numeric and literacy problems. Therefore we facilitated group and one to one ITALL lessons with young people who were experiencing difficulty in reading and writing English as well as having difficulty with everyday mathematics.

In addition, I worked in partnership with South Lanarkshire Young Carer’s project and my role was to provide a support and respite service for young carers. In addition, I designed and facilitated ESOL classes to young carer's whose first language was not speak English.

Moreover, I worked with children from Children’s Units to develop relationships and promoting opportunities for them.

I was also responsible for an area based youth provision in the village of Law to organise young committee skills programme. In addition, to design and facilitate educational workshops and youth programmes that met the needs of the young people.
