My name is Sophie Kourtsidis. I am a 22 year old, half Greek/half Scottish native English speaker from Canada. As such I am extremely proficient in English coming equipped with an expressive vocabulary. I became TESOL certified in May 2017 and recently graduated from Carleton University with an Honors Sociology Degree.

I have seven years of extensive experience in numerous leadership positions where I was responsible for educating both individuals and groups on a variety of different topics ranging from mental health, anti-tobacco legislation, and gender inequality to youth as young eight years old to adults in their eighties. Additionally, I have a large theatre background – performing in 11 productions over the span of nine years. Moreover, I have had seven years of involvement in community committees that have imparted knowledge about making agendas, keeping organized, navigating professional environments, communicating ideas effectively, being able to translate those ideas into reality efficiently, and effective problem solving. Finally, I have also had upwards of four years customer service experience that has taught me to determine what is needed and how to best provide it.

I am extremely interested in Japan primarily because my family has hosted four Japanese exchange students on two separate occasions which really sparked a desire to learn more about the culture, customs, and most importantly, the people. Wherein I found myself enamoured with our students descriptions of the beauty they find in everything Japan has to offer.

Personally I am hardworking with a good sense of humour; adaptable, communicative and sincere. Professionally I can offer you my years of experience, an enthusiastic desire to learn, and the ability to consistently challenge and test my abilities and students’ knowledge in creative and dynamic ways.
