It is quite common when abroad for people to assume that everyone from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is English as the bulk of the population live in England. Those born in Ireland, Scotland or Wales, or consider themselves Irish, Scottish or Welsh can take offence at being called 'English'. This is possibly what the poster was referring to in the short post.

Well, give it another 20 years and nobody will feel offended anyway. The average person(the majority) in the British Isles will simply no longer be a celt or anglosaxon. being British will be what a bit of paper says and that's all.
