Today I am going to give you some advice for the speaking test.

This is probably the part people fear the most, but don't worry! With some proper planning you can familiarise yourself and become comfortable before you start.

Here are some things I usually say to my students before they take the test.

-When you have to give your reply make sure you think about the order and structure. Very important to have a clear plan of what you are going to say and in what order

-Give clear introductions / middle content / conclusions.

-It is good to show off using extended vocabulary, but keep things direct and clear. Is what your saying logical and easily understood?

-Remember to pace your self, don't speak to fast, try to relax as much as you can and just keep a steady rhythm.

-When you say words that you feel you have difficulty with, really slow down these words and try your best to pronounce them as coherently as possible.

-Remember not to go around and around trying to rephrase things, if you get in a muddle, do your best to recover and move on to more comfortable ground.

-When it comes to expressions and idioms, be a little bit aware. You have to be able to use these perfectly to be able to score marks here.

The key is practice beforehand. Make sure you look at lots of sample/previous questions. You will know what to expect and the more you do this you will avoid nasty surprises.

The students who I have seen succeed are the ones are prepared. Sometimes there is a little bit of luck involved as you might find some topics are much easier to speak about than others.

I am available to teach if you are looking for 1-1 private TOEFL lessons.
