English Learning Tips For Students

One of the most important things Spanish speakers who wish to learn English can do is immerse themselves in the target language. Luckily, the amount of resources for learning English online makes it easy to do just that. Using multimedia resources allows even learners with little English language contact to build their skills. Practice makes perfect, and the more time Spanish speakers devote to language practice, the quicker their skill level will climb. Trying a wide variety of resources is helpful, too. Different materials click better with some learners than with others.

Visit websites that offer basic English lessons. For those who speak some English already, websites such as Learn-English-Online.org and Englishpage.com offer lessons in English that cover many different topics. Learners whose English skills are minimal may choose websites such as Pumarosa.com and e-aprender-ingles.com, which offer English lessons in Spanish.

Listen to English as a Second Language (ESL) podcasts. These podcasts, such as the one from eslpod.com, help learners pick up pronunciation and speech rhythms that can be hard to learn through reading alone. The website Podcasting News offers a list of English podcasts for every level, including some that are devoted to Spanish speakers.

Read easy English stories designed for ESL learners. Websites such as eslfast.com and EnglishClub.com offer pages of stories for new English readers. Select stories that don't require the learner to use an English to Spanish dictionary too often; if the learner must look up many words, the story is probably too hard.

Play English games. Learning can, and should, be fun, and websites offer games to suit all levels of learning. For example, the BBC's Learning English website offers crossword puzzles and other games that promote interaction with the language. Timed and scored quizzes are also available for learners who enjoy competing against themselves and others.

Consider signing up for an online ESL course through a local community college. Although free English lesson websites are helpful, ESL courses offered through an educational institution offer individual feedback and placement. These courses are usually located under Continuing Education.
