Someone skilled in advanced English can speak and write the language fluently and comprehend reading in English. Vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation are important elements, but constant practice and active listening can help you to learn, too. In English-speaking countries, such as the United States, employers may require good English language skills. If you plan to live and work in an English-speaking country, be prepared to learn advanced English.

1

Increase your vocabulary. Learn new words every day. Try to understand them based on the context, examining all the words around the new one. Determine their meaning. Use new words in English conversations and in written communication. Use a thesaurus to look up synonyms and antonyms of the new word to further increase your English vocabulary.

2

Write new words you learn in a notebook and then write synonyms and antonyms of the word. Write one sentence using the new English word and try to focus on sentence structure and grammar. Replace the new word with a synonym and then with an antonym and note the way different words change the meaning of the sentence.

3

Listen to advanced English podcasts on the Internet. Those designed for teaching English pronunciation will help you learn to say words correctly as well as expand your vocabulary. Download pronunciation podcasts and recordings to your computer, saved on a CD-ROM or downloaded to an iPod. Listen to short recordings throughout the week for continued improvement in your pronunciation. Watch English language movies and television to help you improve conversational English skills.
