It can be difficult to learn English if you are not around English-speaking people on a daily basis. If English happens to be your second language or if you don't speak English at all, learning English online is a fast and easy way to learn the language for free. The key to learning not just English, but any new language, is to be exposed to it often, and the resources that are online today can offer an effective approach for getting as much exposure to the language as possible.

1

Go to any social media site online that offers to teach for free through exchange of language. Some sites that offer these free services are iTalki, LiveMocha, and Lang8. Once you register, you can meet connect and meet new people online to communicate and learn from each other. If you wish to pay some money, you can also find teachers that provide one-on-one online teaching lessons.

2

Download Skype to your computer. This is a software application that allows anyone to make calls on the Internet for free. You will need Skype in order to communicate with people that you meet online. Practice talking to the person in English for at least 30 minutes a day. Speaking and listening to others is the fastest way to help your accent and improve your English.

3

Go to YouTube or any other type of video network sites and start watching videos of people speaking English. If you type in phrases such as "learn English" you will get multiple results of videos of people teaching English for free. If you want to learn specific parts of English, you can type in "learn English grammar" in which you will get results of people teaching English grammar lessons for free as well.

4

Look for English practice writing and reading resources. In addition to speaking and listening, you'll also need to learn how to write and read. If you go to ESL student websites they will usually provide English grammar and vocabulary quizzes and different types of practice tests that you can do.

5

Download English-speaking files onto your computer. There are many lessons online which you can download. If you happen to have a laptop, you can place it somewhere and nearby so you can always listen to people speaking lessons. If you have an MP3 player, you can upload your English teaching lessons into your MP3 player and listen to it while you are away from home.

6

Learn new vocabulary each week. Dictionary sites like Dictionary Reference and Merriam Webster give you faster access to vocabulary words than looking them on in a dictionary. Buy a notebook and write down any words you don't know and look them up online. In addition, learn five to ten new words a day and write down the definition from the dictionary websites in your notebook so you can improve your English vocabulary.
