There are some things that you will need to keep in mind when learning English writing, like when writing is the best to use, when it is an effective communication skill, when visiting another country and a number of other reasons. Every person and business uses writing in order to conduct business. Business offices, banks, lenders, government offices and individuals all communicate through writing therefore it is imperative that you know how to correspond efficiently and successfully in English.

Here are a few things to keep in mind before you begin to type or write:

1. When writing to business professionals it is best to stick to the point, simple and clear and be formal where necessary. Avoid slang words and colloquialisms. Also make sure that you are writing in the style that fits the reader of the missive.

2. Be careful and sure of what you write, as the written word cannot be recalled. Even the most minor of errors can leave a lasting impression.
3. When writing to family members, friends, children etcetera, then it is appropriate to be less formal, however you should still avoid the use of slang words, abbreviations and symbols as many people find them to be an irritation.

4. People like to see their name in print, that is of course if it is spelled the correct way. So take care that you do not make any mistakes with the spelling of names, especially if the letter is to a client or employer.

5. It is best to keep the sentences short. Long sentences can run on and cause you to lose your point; they can also become boring and put your reader to sleep.
