The world is changing so quickly and it is a huge advantage to be able to speak fluent English to get ahead in life. Only 10 years ago the world was very different. The internet was slow, there were no iPods, and most English learning programs were terribly boring and outdated. At that time the only way to really improve spoken English was to move to an English speaking country. Now there are some really good online English learning programs that teach the kind of English native speakers use in real life.

Things are much different today and the situation will only get better and better for online education. Most English learners unfortunately do not take advantage of this golden opportunity.

Here are some excellent English learning tips that I highly recommend trying if you are really serious about speaking fluent English in the next 3 to 6 months.

1. Buy an iPod or another portable MP3 player if you do not already have one. Almost everyone has time when they are walking, driving, or relaxing in bed before falling asleep to listen to English.

2. Make a detailed plan for how you want to learn and do it everyday. Many people have not real plan when they want to study. They might read for a while and do some translation. They might talk on MSN. They might watch an English movie. Some days they study a lot and then for no good reason they will stop for several weeks. I have never seen anyone improve much with that kind of sloppy method. Make a simple plan that works for you and follow it.

3. Spend more time listening than reading. Try to copy the accent of a native speaker. Record yourself and listen to it. Try it over and over and compare your sound with the native speaker. You will get better over time if you keep trying to improve. It is not true that only kids can learn how to speak English fluently. The problem is that most adults use the wrong study method for learning spoken English. Remember, young children learn to speak by listening only. They do not even know how to read in their own language. Adults should learn something from the way kids learn.

4. Make sure you are learning slang and phrasal verbs. Reading novels or the newspaper will not help much with that but listening to a dialog between real native speakers will. Try it and you will be surprised at how quickly you can improve.
