Simple past tense is a concluded or a finished or an ended activity in the past time. The action was in progress in the past and ended in the past completely. The action started and finished in the past time completely.

I, WE, YOU, THEY, HE, SHE, IT-are the subjects in a sentence.

In those sentences with I, WE, YOU, or THEY-as a subject DID is used as an auxiliary to denote the simple past tense.

The verb used in the sentence with DID is in the PRESENT form always.

To make a simple past sentence into negative, we should add NOT after DID before the verb.

See some examples:

1. Where DID you go?

I DID go to the temple.

2. DID you think about it?

We DID NOT think about it.

3. What DID you say about her?

I DID SAY that she DID NOT love YOU.

4. Where DID they stay yesterday?

They DID STAY in a star hotel yesterday.

Now we will see about PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE.

This tense is used to represent an action that was ongoing in the past time and completed in the past time. An ONGOING past time action.

I, WE, YOU, THEY, HE, SHE, IT are the subjects in a sentence.

In those sentences with I, WE, YOU, or THEY as a subject WAS and WERE are the auxiliaries are used to denote the past continuous tense.

WAS is used with I, HE, SHE, and IT.

WERE is used with WE, YOU, and THEY.

We should add "-ing" with the verb in all sentences to denote PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE. Add NOT before the verb to make the sentence negative.

Now we some examples:

1. What WERE you doing in the last weekend?

I WAS PASSING time in my house lonely seeing television.

2. Who WERE all you going in that car while the accident happens?

Our family friends four WERE going in that car while the accident happens?

3. Can you remember those happy days we WERE enjoying life here in our youth period?

Yes, I can remember those happy days we WERE enjoying life here in our youth.

4. WERE NOT you working as a manager there?

No, I WAS NOT working there as a manager.

5. They WERE WORKING as software engineer in Wipro. ARE NOT they?

Yes, they WERE WORKING as software engineers in Wipro.
