The Top 10 Ways to Impress in Your New Career

1. Actively participate in your new company's training program. Take advantage of any opportunities that will allow you to increase your knowledge or expand your skill set.

2. Never make promises that you can't keep and complete all given tasks within their designated timeframe.

3. Make the most of meetings with your employer. Prepare by writing down any questions you have, or noting any topics you would like to discuss.

Additionally, be prepared for anything they may ask you.

4. Be a problem solver. Tackle workplace issues with confidence and enthusiasm.

Make sure you make yourself available to help co-workers when your services are needed. Offer your help with tasks that are not required of you.

5. Align yourself with co-workers that are held in high esteem.

Use their behavior as a model for developing your own habits within the workplace.

6. Be a motivated self-starter. Proactively get things done when you can, and ask questions when necessary.

Actively listen to instructions when they are given so you don't have to have anything explained to you twice.

7. Work to fit in with your co-workers. Show them that you are a team player by helping them when they need it.

Make yourself needed so that you become an essential part of your work environment.

8. Build and protect your reputation. Make sure you are always showing a high level of integrity. Be honest, loyal and trustworthy.

Never do anything that would put these traits under any scrutiny.

9. Learn from mistakes and don't repeat them. This does not solely apply to your own mistakes it is also important to learn from the mistakes of others.

Everyone makes an error from time to time, but the ability to learn from it and move on is key.

10. Actively participate in your performance reviews. If your company does not have regular performance reviews perform your own.

Evaluate your job description and determine honestly with yourself if you are meeting your job requirements.
