Employment Tips

10 Ways For Bosses to Score Points
By:Larry Icabandi Nabiong

Well, not all have the chance and the capacity to become a boss. Only a chosen few have. Lucky are they for being one, sometimes their subordinates become the "unlucky" victims. Yes, with a boss who is bossy, perfectionist, maladjusted fellow, etc. an unfortunate worker becomes the unwilling target. And we know very much, how it is to become one.

I wouldn't enumerate here the tears and all of one victim, but just to give my own friendly reminders to our bosses out there to ponder on.

To whom much is given, much is expected.

Whatever management style you might be employing in your office, it might help you to heed the following tips to ensure positive feedback from your employees:

1. Always put aside your personal problems when handling skirmishes inside your office. Often times, the more you are engrossed in your own problems the farther you will be able to handle office problems.

2. Never humiliate your subordinates in front of other workers, lest you be branded as crude, evil, insensitive, brutish, etc. Who would want to work with a disrespectful boss? Even an imbecile one would never linger a minute with you.

3. Avoid favoritism. This might trigger division between and among your workers. It is fun working with a professional one who knows how to balance office atmosphere and encourage fair play.

4. Avoid meddling in the personal affairs of your workers. Love life, financial woes, and the like must be out of your concern. Focus your time on the job description rather than the personality of the worker which has nothing to do with his/her performance.

5. Always observe proper behavior at all times. Yes, if you want them to respect you.

6. Never attempt to belittle workers; you never know what they can do later, or whom they know to whom they can divulge your inappropriate behavior. Sad stories and the like, experience by a worker due to your lapses in decorum, will run like wild fire around the workplace, and could diminish workers' respect.

7. Wear a smile. It must be true and not just put up. Workers have a way of telling if your smile hides something fishy or what?

8. Do not pretend you know everything. You are also human, and to commit mistakes is second nature. A lot of boss out there are great pretenders. Why not be a genuine person inside and out?

9. Always think positive. See the beauty of each person; refrain from fault-finding, etc. With this habit of peeping on the weaknesses of your workers just to harass them later, would give you a bad impression on the eyes of your workers. Try to see their strengths, instead.

10. Serve as an inspiration to your workers. You know what your workers' need: respect.
