Keys to Making a Successful Career Change at Any Age
By:Tony Jacowski

The best comes only to those who are willing to work hard for it and never give up. Age is no barrier for those who are truly motivated. For complacent people, the age factor is a good excuse for not aiming high.

Break The Psychological Barrier

'I am too old to start all over again.' This is the biggest psychological barrier to changing your career. You have to free yourself from this mindset. This kind of negative thinking is the biggest obstacle in your path.

Think of it this way - you can't dream of being a boxing world champion if you are already in your fifties, because human body is bound by the laws of nature. After a certain age, it starts losing its strength and stamina. Thus, it has its limitations.

But psychologists say the human mind has no limitations; its capacity is infinite, as its energy is inexhaustible.

History is replete with examples when people took on a new hobby or activity at an advanced age and made it big over time. The following examples demonstrate the fact that age is not a barrier for motivated people:

Benjamin Franklin was well over 80 when he played a key role in drafting the American constitution. Michelangelo was 83 when he designed St. Peter's Cupola and remained active till the age of 89. It is well known that great artist Pablo Picasso remained active right up to his nineties.

Celebrated writer Amelia Barr, was over 53 when her first book was published. She went on to write over eighty more books, all of which were hugely popular. Mary Baker Eddy, known for starting Christian Science, was in her mid-fifties when she wrote her masterpiece 'Science and Health'.

Have Faith In Yourself

Repeat this mantra to yourself umpteen times: 'If others can do it why can't I?' After all, you are also a human being like those mentioned above who made it big at comparatively a later stage of life.

All the energy or power that you need comes from your own mind. Never think you are just a physical body made of flesh and blood. In fact, you are consciousness without known boundaries.

You have probably already changed jobs a number of times for superficial reasons - more money, better perks, etc. That's enough!

Now take a quantum leap and change your career. That is the best way to reinvent yourself. If you are serious about realizing your untapped potential, you can't settle for anything less.
