Do You Hate Your Job? How to Go From a Job to a Career
By:Benjamin Wise

Your job feels like work and you figure this is how it's going to be forever. Don't feel like you're stuck. There are simple ways to use the time you're spending now grooming yourself to start a career.

Keep Learning! Just because you're working doesn't mean you stop learning. Most employers also offer tuition reimbursement for college credits. If you hate your job, going to school and taking lots of general education classes can help you find your interests, your talents and a new place of employment through on-campus job fairs and the school's employment placement office.

Develop Hobbies! You may be worn out and want to sit at home and watch television when you're not actively earning a living. Resist the urge and, instead, develop any hobbies you might have once had.

Photography, yoga, Web site design, go-kart racing. Any hobby where you are creating something or interacting with other people is one you should be active in. Those with creative hobbies can use their free time to create a portfolio to pass around.

"Yeah, I mow lawns, but my real love is drums. I'm always looking for gigs that need a unique sound," you might say and pass out a demo tape like you would a business card.

And for those who have hobbies that involve others, keep in mind that most jobs are found through knowing someone. So the more people you know, the more people can recognize a good opportunity for you when they see it.
