Employment Tips

The Quickest and Easiest Way to Retire
By:Dave Walters

What if I told you that there is a career out there which, if you are over 21 and can read what I am writing, you qualify for and, not only that, but thousands of employers would be climbing over each other to hire you? What if I told you this position usually pays an above average or well-above average salary, you are almost always provided with a free apartment with all or most of the utilities paid by your employer, you only have to work 12-25 hours per week, do very very little preparation, and you could travel all over the world doing it? I know what you would say, "this is to good to be true, it must be phony." If you just bear with me for a moment I will convince you, beyond any doubt, by the end of this article that this is completely legitimate and I do it myself right now.

So What Is This Job?

Teaching English. Yep, it's that simple. Have you ever thought about it? How many students in the world are currently studying English as a Second Language. Well the estimate's put it at 700 million students! There are roughly 700 hundred million students in this world learning English, and I don't mean Language Arts in the US, Canada, or Britain, I mean as a second language. There is an enormous shortage of teachers as well, especially in Asia, where the older generations really haven't learned English that well and therefore aren't qualified to teach it. Go Google something like "teach English in China" and see how many results you get and you will get a feel for how many ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers are needed in China. Do the same for numerous other countries and you will know what I mean when I say, it is incredibly easy to get a position as an ESL teacher. Especially, in places such as Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, SE Asia, and South America, there are never enough ESL teachers.

Why Is Teaching ESL So Wonderful?

I teach ESL overseas because it is a lifestyle choice. I work 14 hours per week (including all preparation time) and spend the rest of my time doing whatever I like. I get paid plenty, I have zero bills to pay, and I live 5 minutes from the ocean. The locals would kill for an apartment like mine. I am not saying this to impress you, I am saying this to impress UPON you that this really is the opportunity of a lifetime. If you can read what I am writing you are probably qualified and you can do it as well.

What Do I Need To Live This Lifestyle And Teach ESL?

You usually, but not always, need to be a native speaker of English or speak fluent English. You usually (but again not always) need to have a college degree (2 year degree will usually be accepted as well). The third thing you need is probably the most important, you need to be a little adventurous. In many cases, teaching ESL in another country will be an absolutely amazing experience, but it's best if you are able to adapt to change. Many people protest here saying, "But I can't just uproot and leave", and perhaps you can't, but the majority of people who teach ESL overseas plan on teaching for 1 semester, which is very common (most of them end up continuing because they can't imagine any other better lifestyle). Also, if you can get on a plane, you are not to old to do this!

I am not old, I do not have the greatest education or any incredibly marketable skills, but I teach ESL overseas, always have more job offers than I know what to do with, and live a lifestyle that people dream about. I have build a successful online business with all of my free time as well. When I feel I want to see what another country or city has to offer, I just move on and teach there. Teaching ESL is the vehicle to living the retired lifestyle immediately. You could start when the next semester begins (some schools even hire year-round). My point of all of this is that you can do it too and you can bring your family if you want. They just want your English brain!

I am writing this because I am sick of people complaining about a lack of opportunity. If you can speak English, you are incredibly lucky! So at least look into it and perhaps someday you'll be writing an article just like this.
