Employment Tips

Employment Test Tips
By:Charmayne Smith

Employment testing can be stressful and, sometimes, difficult. However, the employment testing process can be the deciding factor as to whether you are hired for the job. In order to be successful in the testing process, prepare yourself for what is to come.

Practice
While it is difficult to study for an employment test, certain actions can improve your chance of success. Try to study or practice for what is to come. If you are applying for an office or call center position, your employment test will more than likely include typing and office software sections. Refresh your typing skills by taking a few typing tests. Practice using the office software that is most common in the office. Generally, you will use Word, Excel and PowerPoint. There are available tutorials and testing online that can help you improve. If you are applying for an accounting or bookkeeping position, refresh your accounting skills and make sure you are comfortable with accounting software such as PeachTree and Quicken. Regardless of what type of position you are applying for, attempt to practice in your testing field so that you are ready for your exam.

Rest Up
Just like in school, it is important to get enough rest the night before your employment test. Employment testing rooms are usually quiet and void of distraction; if you are not rested, you might find your mind wandering off. You should also make sure you eat a light meal about an hour before the employment exam. This step will ensure that your body is energized.

Arrive Early
Do not wait until the last minute to arrive for testing. Your future employer will more than likely have paperwork for you to complete before testing. You might also find that you are not the only person taking the test during that selected time slot. Therefore, arriving early will allow you to complete any additional required steps and begin your test on time. This will also show the employer that you are punctual.

Read the Directions
Before beginning each portion of the employment test, read the directions. While you might think that you already know how to complete each section, you might find, after the fact, that you failed the test because of simple errors. Read each section carefully and pay close attention to each question. Answer every question. If you are unsure of the answer, make your best attempt in choosing the correct answer.
