I also agree that students need to be given more opportunity to practice reading during this tutor time.
My philosophy has and always will be that good readers are good writers, and good writers are good readers.
Don't focus on the grammar as this can turn students off as they become more self-conscious of their writing errors.
Remember- Read, Read and Read!!
