Web Sites to Use with Your Students

I thought that with the start of the New Year, I would begin by providing teachers and students with a host of different web sites which they can use in their studies and with their students. These web sites have a variety of information and numerous strategies and activities to use in the classroom:

1. www.loc.gov: U.S. Library of Congress- Contains U.S. History, Online Exhibitions and Audio files, i.e. “Slaves tell their Story”

Here are some recent web sites I have found that you can incorporate into your Technology Lesson:

1. www.todayinliterature.com: allows students the opportunity to read about the
major books, writers and events in literary history.

2. www.cowboypal.com: a website dedicated to the cowboy stars of the 30’s, 40’s
and 50’s.

3. www.classicmoviemusicals.com: Guide to classic screen musicals, with
information about the film, actor, song or composer.

4. www.stormtrack.org/index.php: provides firsthand accounts and video footage
from storm chasers across the U.S.

5. www.AmericanRhetoric.com: Has the audio and text of over 200 famous
speeches, as well as an index of over 5,000 more. Also, there are 200
short audio clips that illustrate rhetorical devices, such as Similes and Metaphors.

6. www.HistoryChannel.com/speeches: you can read or hear a variety of famous
speeches.

7. www.gos.sbc.edu: Gifts of Speech features speeches by Women Only.
