Correct Use of Adjective and Adverb
By:Dr. Yanni Zack- ESL Teaching Tips and Strategies <drzack@zackeducationalservices.com>

Many ESL students have difficulty in correctly using adjectives and adverbs.

Here is an easy way to teach your ESL students how to correctly use adjectives and adverbs within a sentence:

Adjectives always modify a noun. Adjectives answer a "what" type of question. For example, in the sentence "John has a blue shirt", blue is the adjective and tells or describes what type of shirt John had.

Adverbs always modify a verb and describe an action.
Adverbs answer a "how" type of question. For example, in the sentence "Robert walked quickly because it was raining", quickly is the adverb and describes how Robert walked.
