I work at a college at the moment, and my students are more motivated than the students I had at my old high school. My students at the government high school would have been as motivated if I could have only gotten them when they were five or six instead of fifteen or sixteen. By the time I showed up in these students' classes, they had long given up on academics. This is because Thai teachers instill a subservient attitude in their students very early through sanction and propaganda, along with physical abuse. It's infuriating to me that the desire for control has such negative side effects on students. Thai teachers don't have a clue.
