ESL School Operation
By:Dr. Yanni Zack- ESL Tips and Strategies <drzack@zackeducationalservices.com>

Hello Dr. Yanni,

I have learned and taken a lot of advantage from your website. It has been really helpfull for my husband and I as we teach English privately. However, after a lot of research I'm still not finding any information on what needs to be done as far as making our own English school oficial. Do you know what needs to be done legally? Do we need special licenses? Please give some advice. I'll really appreciate it. Thank you for your time and consideration,

Maisa Moreira Impink

Dear Maisa,

Thank you for your excellent question. Maisa, establishing and operating an ESL School requires a lot of initial planning and hard work. My suggestion is that you first establish what type of client population you will serve. Are you going to serve children and young people, or are you going to serve Adult Learners.? You also want to consider what type of educational background you are going to require for your teachers. Will they only need to have TEFL certification, or will they be required to have an advanced degree such as a BA or MA in TESOL or TEFL? You also will need to establish a budget for the monthly operations of the school. As far as special licenses are concerned, I would recommend that you contact the governmental office for the Ministry of Education in the country where you are planning to establish your school in order to obtain specific license requirements and regulations for the operation of your ESL School. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing with your plans to establish your ESL School.
