Classroom Teaching Strategies

Dear Dr. Yanni Zack.

Greetings!

I saw your website and I'm impressed with you particularly about your achivements as an educator that's why I dont hesitate to write you and ask some techniques to become an effective and efficient educator like you.

I am a Physics teacher in the Philippines and now I have the oppurtunity to teach in Batam, Indonesia this coming school year. I just want to ask some suggestions or ask some views about the nature of students and what are the effective techniques and strategies that I can be used for my indonesian students because I believe Filipino students are different from Indonesian students.

I am lucky indeed and have high hopes that you will give a little time to answer my questions out of your busy schedule.

Thank You very much and more power!

Truly yours,

MR JORGE D. ALCANTARA

Dear Jorge,

I am very glad that you submitted this question. Developing effective teaching strategies in order to make learning fun for all students is very important.
I have found that no matter where you are teaching or what age level of students you teach, effective and fun teaching techniques are going to be needed.

Here are some suggestions:

First, make to sure to include lots of hands on learning activities. Since you are teaching Physics, experiments that students perform either in a group or as a team would be an example of a hands- on activity.

Second, remember to include lots of visuals within your lessons, and also, use technology such as computer PowerPoint Presentations if at all possible.

Next, remember to include a variety of activities within each lesson so as to keep the students motivated, on task and eager to learn.

Finally, remember that all learning modalities- Auditory, Visual and Kinesthetic- need to be included in each lesson in order to make sure that you reach all of the students different learning styles and thus are providing them with a balanced lesson.
