How to manage large classes?

I have just started teaching in a chinese middle school with classes between 30 - 45 students.
30 students seems ok to monitor and check feedback, but over 30 and I struggle to make sure they talk during the lesson. They don't have a whole lot of discipline, so while I am with one group the rest of the class are chatting in chinese. The general noise level in the classroom is also pretty high.

Any tips on how to manage a large group, set up activities and keep focus so they all get a chance to practice and improve?

Many thanks
Lindsey
