Extelfer gave some good tips and also a good suggestion for not teaching the alphabet to develop oral English skills.
TESOL/TEFL teaching today should be based on the use of the Communicative Approach- that is, using everyday situations as a way to teach English. I would also suggest you use pictures and role play situations with your students.
