ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Cinderella is a wonderful story, both for boys and girls. The story will always be popular.
Try to speak only English when telling your boy a story when you want him to learn English. By staying in English, and not switching back and forth from Tamil to English and back to Tamil, the English he hears consistently will help him learn faster.
Think of it as a switch in his brain. You want to turn off the Tamil language and turn on the English language for a while during his story telling/language learning time. At home, you can play a little with him. When telling the story about the carriage that Cinderella rides in pretend you are riding together in the carriage. Say, "OK, now let's get into Cinderella's carriage with her!" And pretend to open the door and climb into it. "Let's sit down!" That way he gets a picture in his mind of each thing and each action he does, and learns the English that goes with it.
Also, after he has heard the Cinderella story three or four times, he may be tired with it. That is when you ask him to tell you the story, in English. That way he gets practice telling the story, and you find out how well he has learned.
The most important thing is it needs to be fun, what ever you do!
