Re Running an English Corner

I've taught at two schools here in China, and have never truly understood why E.C.s exist. I've found that running an English Corner is more closely related to being an entertainer. Anything that requires opinions is frowned upon. To be fair students at private language schools are there to entertained, however students complain if they feel they aren't being made to laugh enough, which tends to be problematic for someone who doesn't know Chinese humor. We are currently running American and British sitcoms with English subtitles - pre-teaching vocab and idioms of course. It's worked quite well, you might want to give it a try.
