Re: I need advice on how to run an English Corner for beginners
By:Turnoi

English Corners for kids not speaking or understanding any English is an absolute idiocy to ask for by those demanding you to do it. Seems those running the school know nothing about language education and ESL.

Now, if you have to do it... well, then.....

English Corners are a way to provide some environment outside class with an opportunity to speak and her English in a less formal athmosphere than you would have in class. Class situations are always somewhat artificial and formal and do not really reflect the actual situation of spontaneous communication in everyday-life situations.
I cannot really give you any advice of what to do in an English Corner as I do not the students, the school, the circumstances and all that.

But this activity should cover different things and be in a different form than you would give your lessons in class.

To think of English corners in a Primary School with kids not knowing any English at all is something so absurd that I cannot advise anything better.

Sorry, I am only baffled with regard to the ignorance shown by those running the school in this matter.

Nevertheless, good luck; I hope for you they will abolish this stupid thing sooner or later!
