I teach 3rd grade in Oregon and I am getting a male student from Thailand in January. He speaks no English but was just adopted by a wonderful family here in town. I'm wondering what exactly to concentrate on for the beginning of his arrival. I am also starting a project called literature circles in which all the other students are grouped. Should I find a Thai book for him and assign him a partner with an English version of the same book?
