I encourage you to begin teaching with your client in a simplified, basic manner. Start off with basic vocabulary, and use a lot of visuals to reinforce the concept.
Also, go to the ESL teaching books and materials thread on this website- and find the first listing for Noel's ESL e-books. I just looked at it, and found a great wealth of different downloadable free e-books that have a variety of strategies and lessons you can use with your student at this time. All of the books are free.
