Best progression for individual student without confusing her with IPA symbols and grammatical terms

Recently, someone requested for me to teach English to an adult who IS literate in her own language (Spanish), but NOT very well-versed in grammatical terminology (also, she is not the best speller in Spanish, but that is common here). In addition, she finds the IPA symbols for sounds even more confusing, since she has to try to remember not only the variations of English spelling, but also an alien set of symbols.

Considering those things, what would be the best lesson-progression approach to take? These lessons are not so that she may take any particular exams, etc., but so that she may use English, in her business, to communicate better (via telephone AND email) with her clients, who don't know Spanish.

I do NOT have a formal background in teaching, but am very good at working as a tutor, however I have usually taught computer-related topics to adults who speak English, so teaching the English, itself, is quite different. Even so, I am very good with resource materials, and am able to apply such things well, once I have found the right materials.

Since we are NOT in the U.S., the best tools would be printable materials that I could find online or generate myself. One thing that I really need is something to suggest the PROGRESSION of subjects and materials - that is, the actual direction and steps to take - while also holding to the things I mentioned above.

What would you suggest?

Thank you.
