Danielle,

I understand your frustration in working with Young Children who have difficulty listening. Remember that Young child have a short attention span. Thus, you have to create short lessons, that provide meaningful comprehensible input. I have found that if you consider using hands on learning, i.e. activities that require the use of TPR (Total Physical Response), you have have a much better chance of holding their attention.

TPR activities would include games such as Simon Says. This could be used for teaching the parts of the body.

Also, make sure to use visuals (pictures) with the students as a way to develop their vocabulary.
