You are off to a good start in teaching this man the basics, Introductions, i.e. Hello, days of the week, months of the year, numbers, etc.

In terms of other strategies to use, I highly recommend that you use pictures/visuals to teach different vocabulary words and vocabulary phrases.

Pictures are great when teaching simple regular verbs and the actions that accompany them.
