ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Greetings - I and others who post often here at elstechersboard would under most experiences be happy to help you; however, many of us are reluctant to give out our email addresses. The main reason for this is that there are many unscrupulous teacher recruiters here in China that will either bombard us with offers or find some other negative way to use our addresses. Of course, there are many other reasons not to freely post your email address on the internet as well.
In regards to your quest for information regarding teaching overseas though, you can find a wealth of information posted here in the teachers forum and school and recruiter reviews. This and many other esl websites have archives that you can research for a lot of information. Granted, some of that information will be slanted for one reason or the other. But I think a discerning mind can filter out the suspicious posts - such as those who by virtue of their lack of qualifications have been fired from their jobs and vindictively post warnings against their previous employees.
Beyond that, my advice would be to find teachers in your local area who have had overseas teaching experience. Many ESL teachers have taught abroad because of some ESL programs require overseas experience before being hired for positions in the U.S. Others have returned to teaching positions in the U.S. simply because they feel they have taught overseas long enough and/or have gained enough experience to increase their chances of being employed at home.
At any rate, it's a pity that many teachers here in China for example would be reluctant to communicate with you via email. There are many teachers, including myself, that have been here for quite awhile and that have experienced the ups and downs of being employed in China. It's definitely a situation where, generally, one must "learn the ropes" before finding a comfort zone.
Good luck!
