English schools in China

Beijing
School:House of Knowledge International School & Kindergarten

House of Knowledge International School and Kindergarten (HoK) is an independent school that was established in Beijing in 2007. HoK believes that tomorrow’s leaders need an excellent foundation, cultivated in an international environment that is both caring and challenging. HoK’s unique Reggio Emilia inspired kindergarten curriculum trains students to acquire critical thinking and collaboration skills by teaching them how to “learn to learn.” At HoK’s Elementary School, students chose between a English/Chinese program and German/English program, depending on what curriculum and languages the student wants to acquire. Furthermore, students have the option of acquiring a third language as part of the daily program. Our mission is to provide a sustainable child-driven education that engages students in active learning, with a multi-sensory approach that allows children the freedom to explore. Languages are taught through “content based instruction”, which is an approach to language instruction that integrates the presentation of topics or tasks from subject classes (e.g math’s, science) within the context of teaching second foreign language. The modest size of the elementary school allows for an intimate child-centered environment where students thrive.

We are always looking for teachers that are excited about working on a multicultural team whose collective goal is to inspire and equip children to become lifelong learners. Our staff are hand-picked from all over the world based on their education, experience, love of children and enthusiasm for learning. HoK teachers bring their years of experience into the classroom to create a safe, fun, educational and truly multilingual program for their students.

With some of the best teacher-student ratios in the city of Beijing, and with a faculty comprised of approximately 50% locals and 50% expatriates, each House of Knowledge student is welcomed into a truly international language immersion program where they receive plenty of intentional care, direction, encouragement and assistance from our teaching teams. Because we believe so strongly in life-long-learning, we also strive to provide continual opportunities for the professional development of our teachers through seminars, workshops, training, team-building, in-house support and frequent reviews. At HoK, we are all learners for life!
