Shangrao Normal College was previously called Shangrao Normal Junior College when it was founded in 1958. Over the past 20 years, more than 26,000 students graduated from this college and work in every walk of life all over China.

Shangrao Normal College is located in the south suburb in Shangrao city of northeastern of Jinagxi. State Highway 320, Li Weng Expressway and Zhe Gan Railway run by with easy communications. Since it stands at the joint to the famous national scenic spot of Mt. Shangqin、Mt.Longhu、Mt. Guifeng and even the international-level busy tourist destination Mt. Wu Yi as well as Mt. Huangshan. It is full of favorable environment.

At present, SNC has an enrollment of 8750 full-time students from 28 provinces and 3298 adult education students. There are 943 faculties and staffs. Among them, there are 38 professors, 137 associate professors including 9 doctors, 189 masters, 3 fellows enjoying the State Council Special Allowance, 1 Ph.D. supervisor, 6 supervisors for master degree candidate. The college is composed of 13 departments and 4 public research centers in 73 specialties.

SNC is well quipped with a series of high standard equipments in laboratories, multi-media sound labs, computer network control center, audio-visual teaching lab, digital piano classroom, gymnasium, standard plastic ground track field, etc. It has two libraries and two electronic reading rooms with a collection of books over991130 volumes and all kinds of electronic reading materials. The total value reaches RMB40,154,000yuan.

There are 11 reaching institutions, such as Institute of Agricultural Science, Institute of Chuhsi Study, Institute of Philosophy, Institute of Language, Institute of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Institute of Organic Chemistry.

“Journal of Shangrao Normal College” (Social Science Branch Version) is in the list of National 100 Best Journals on Social Science, Double 10 Models Journals on Arts and the core periodical on humanities society scientific published by colleges and universities in China. Its natural science branch version is listed in the scope of input of "Chinese Mathematical Documentary Database " and "Chinese Physics Database”. “Chuhsi Academy Periodical” is well known at home and abroad. In recent years, teachers and researchers have finished 20 research projects with national and provincial natural scientific fund, 400 above province-level social scientific research subjects, among which there are 32 items and 51 pieces of works of art are awarded. More than 2830 academic essays have been published home and abroad, including 40 has been adopted by SCI, EI. Also more than 330 academic works have been published and have attained 11 items of patents.

SNC positively advances the education for all-around development, pays special attention to students’ teaching basic skills training and strengthen " Three Calligraphy One Language", which specially introduced by "People's Daily". The students from Department of Mathematics attended National Mathematics Modelling Competition for 3 times and were awarded twice. Graduates with good comprehensive quality, and strong adaptability received warm-welcome not only in Jiangxi, but in coastal developed areas.

SNC is with green campus covered with trees and lawns. Pavilions and buildings are scattered and organized. The afforestation coverage reaches 40%; hence, it is awarded “Landscape Architecture And Grardening Unit” and "the Green Unit".

At present, SNC is preparing for the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level held by Ministry of Education, and implementing its “2003 -2007 Plan”, in order to exert itself to be a well-known teaching university with multi-disciplines, local characteristic and outstanding features in and out of Jiangxi Province.
