Luoyang Normal University is located in Luoyang City, a historic cultural city and a famous ancient capital of 13 dynasties. Since its foundation in the year of 1916, the university has witnessed 88 years. The university is a comprehensive university which covers 8 subjects, namely literature, science, law, engineering, agriculture, history, education and administration.

The university has 16 colleges: Chinese Language and Literature, History and Culture, Political Science and Law, Foreign Languages, Mathematics and Information Science, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Education Science and Life Sciences. It also has one college---College of Adult Education and 3 public teaching sections.

It covers 32 four-year program specialties and 18 three-year program specialties. Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Ancient Chinese History, Science-technology Philosophy and Optics are also key subjects. At present, it has over 15000 full-time students, and more than 8000 students of adult education. In 2003, it began to accept international students.

There is a teaching staff of 900, of whom over 320 have doctoral and master¡¯s education background, and over 220 are professors or associate professors. There are over 30 provincial young or middle-aged core teachers. The library houses over 840,000 books, 2100 kinds of periodicals both in Chinese and foreign languages, and 200,000 kind of electronic books as well.

Besides, it has modern teaching and scientific research institutes, such as the Education Science Research Institute, the Aquatic Products Research Institute, the International Research Center for Heluo Culture, and the Network Center. It has a first-class library, modern classroom buildings, lab buildings, an art building, multi-media buildings, and an International Academic Exchange Center.

Luoyang Normal University adheres to the harmonious development of the scale, structure, quality and benefit as principles. So far, a large number of its graduates have made great achievements in various fields. The university pays special attention to science and technology research. In recent years, 355 textbooks and academic works as well as over 5000 academic papers have been published. Over 600 of these academic papers have been published in core periodicals, such as Xinhua Digest.

Over 90 academic papers have been published in the famous international periodicals and have been collected in Science Citation Index and Engineering Index. The university has undertaken over 128 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level, of which more than 40 have been awarded prizes of science and technology achievements or excellent teaching granted by authoritative institutions at or above the level of the province and governmental ministry. The journal of Luoyang Normal College has been chosen as the first-class periodical at the provincial level.

Since its foundation, the university has gained rich experience and has accumulated for teachers the strength in running its school. It has formed its own system: education for teachers and education for non-teachers, existing side by side, complementing mutual advantages and optimizing their development.
