North China Electric Power University (NCEPU), founded in 1958 and designated by the State Council as a key university in China in 1978, is affiliated with the Ministry of Education. NCEPU is composed of two respective campuses in Beijing and in Baoding, with its main campus in Beijing .

NCEPU holds school buildings of 800,000 square meters and fixed assets of 1.4 billion yuan, including 0.3 billion yuan allocated to scientific and teaching facilities. The university library covers a collection of 1.5 million books. NCEPU possesses a high-quality teaching staff with a total number of 1,505 professional teachers, including 252 professors, 404 associate professors, and three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Being open to students from all over China , the university has, at present, more than 24,000 full-time students, including 19,000 undergraduates and 5,300 post-graduates. For many years, NCEPU has enjoyed the graduates' employment rate of over 96%.

NCEPU has greatly improved its academic programs and a complete educational system for bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. students has been firmly established. Currently, NCEPU maintains 53 bachelor's programs, 46 master's programs, 14 Ph.D. programs, three first-level disciplines authorized to confer Ph. D. degrees, two mobile stations of post-doctoral scientific research, a post-doctoral project workstation, a key discipline at the national level, ten key disciplines at the provincial and ministerial level, eight key laboratories at the provincial and ministerial level, a research center for philosophy and social sciences at the provincial and ministerial level, and some professional degree programs including Master's Program of Business Administration and Master's Program of Professional Engineering.
