Fujian University of Technology is located in the historic city of Fuzhou, Fujian Province which is perched along the southeast coast of China. The University was set up in March 2002 by merging Fujian Polytechnic College and Fujian College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, which were once under one roof of "Fujian Gaogong", a nationally renown school before the founding of PRC. "Fujian Gaogong" originated from "Cangxia Jingshe"(Fujian Cangxia Technical School, co-founded in 1896 by Lin Shu, the eminent Fujian gentry and Chen Baochen, the tutor for the last emperor of Qing Dynasty).

Today, the University also has a reputation for excellence in other fields including engineering, architecture , economics , management, Jurisprudence and Literature. At present, the University is made up of 12 academic departments， 2 teaching divisions and 1 school, namely, Department of Electromechanical and Automation Engineering, Department of Computer and Information Science, Department of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Department of Economic Management, Department of Modern Media, Department of Jurisprudence, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Architecture and Planning, Department of Engineering Management, Department divisions are Political Science Division and Physical Education Division. The present 34 Bachelor’s Programs involve engineering, economics, management, humanities, basic science and jurisprudence. Of the present 14,128 full-time students, undergraduate students are 8890, collegiate students are 5238, and the adult school students are 4744.

FJUT possesses a relatively well-structured, high quality faculty. Of the present 1350 university staff, the faculty is 697, among them there are 213 professors and associate professors.

FJUT owns Shanxi Campus, Cangshan Campus and Pudong Campus and occupies a total area of 40.5 ha (607 mu). Its new location in Fuzhou University District will occupy an area of 107 ha (1608 mu). The university is equipped with sufficient facilities for teaching and learning with a total of 47 laboratories.

FJUT keeps opening up and has boosted exchange and cooperation with foreign universities, the cooperation covering several universities in U.K., U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand. Under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping’s Theory and “Three Representations”, FJUT will continue to practice scientific outlook on development and catch the opportunity of the construction of cross-Strait economic zone, coordinating and sustained development of the university courses with a view to building the university into an engineering-based, provincial first-rate and nationally acclaimed comprehensive institution of higher education with distinct characteristics among similar provincial universities.
