Liaoning Normal University (LNNU) is one of the key institutions of higher learning in Liaoning Province, located in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in northern China.

Liaoning Normal University was founded in August 1951. Since then, over 70,000 students have graduated from the university. They have contributed significantly to the reform and development of basic education in Liaoning Province. The university has become the provincial center in Liaoning for training teachers at the secondary and tertiary levels with an emphasis on educational research.

The university campus occupies an area of 116 acres, with a total building area of 350,000 square meters. The university's fixed asset is 657.15 million yuan and its library holdings are over 1.33 million volumes.The university currently offers programs through 25 departments organized in 10 different colleges. Thirty-nine academic programs are offered at the undergraduate level, thirty-six at the masters level and two at the doctoral level. In addition, the university has one affiliated high school and one vocational school.

The university also has a national level continuing education training center for secondary and elementary school teachers, an agricultural and biological engineering technology center, an Overseas Computerized Testing Center affiliated with the Ministry of Education, an International Japanese Language Testing Center, IELTS Testing Center, Liaoning Province Language and Cultural Application Center, Studying Abroad Service Center, Distance Learning Center, and an Authorized National Information Training Center. In addition, the University houses an American university branch, the Southwest Missouri State University Branch Campus at Liaoning Normal University.

Presently, the university employs 1,732 people of whom 831 are full-time faculty including 138 professors, 300 Associate professors and 326 lecturers. The total student population consists of 12,132 undergraduate students, 676 graduate students, and 358 foreign students. In addition, there are 7,182 students enrolled in the adult education programs and 450 in the on-the-job education masters program.

The University maintains a strong commitment to providing quality education through its efforts in improving teaching and research. Discipline development has a high priority on university's agenda. A series of important guiding principles of the university include "sticking to the right direction, maintaining appropriate position, maximizing competitive advantages, developing resource potentials, deepening education reforms, strengthening administrative management, and improving university quality." As a result, a new model was established for training qualified personnel with solid foundation, superior quality, special skills and broad adaptability."

The university has received one First Level and six Second Level State-funded Excellence in Teaching Awards, as well as 32 provincial "Excellence in Teaching Awards. In the area of research, the university's achievements are also remarkable. Since 1991, the University has been approved to conduct 68 state scientific research projects, thirty-five of which are sponsored by the 863 Project and by the National Natural Science Fund, and thirteen are funded through the National Social Science Foundation.

Moreover, the university has been granted 442 provincial and municipal projects. It has received 74 Science and Technology Progress Awards, 50 projects passed the evaluations, 18 patents were approved, and 190 contracts were signed for technology or service transfer.
