Shunde Polytechnic located in Shunde district of Foshan city,Guangdong prov,China came into existence in March 1999. It is a full-time college invested and sponsored by Shunde Government and approved by the National Ministry Education.

The new college campus covers 128.6 hectares in extent with a construction area of 350,000 square meters. Now there are over 9,000 full-time students studying on campus and over 5，400 adult students studying in their spare time at the college. At present, 496 teachers work on campus.

The college consists of 10 departments-the Department of Electro-mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Computer Technology, the Department of Medicine & Nursing, the Department of Economics & Management, the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, the Department of Arts & Design, the Department of Foreign Language, and the Department of Education and the Department of Continuing Education. The college offers 30 majors, among which Refrigeration Engineering and Furniture Design & Making are two of the first teaching reform trial majors of junior and vocation colleges approved by the National Ministry of Education.

The college has decided on its philosophy of “Being based upon the reality of the locality, Upholding the people-oriented principle, Pursuing higher quality of education and Giving expression to characteristic features” in strict accordance with the government requirement of “Starting off high, and running with a new education system and giving expression to outstanding characteristics”. It actively pushes forward its education reform, innovation and exploration, and pioneers its way of development as a vocational-technical college. The goal of the college is: to build itself into a modern, open, internationally influential, domestically first-rate, popularized, and internationalized local university.

The college greatly pushes forward the construction of its disciplines and majors, its teaching environment and college culture, investing much capital in building up a number of key majors such as the Refrigeration Engineering, the Furniture Design and Making, the Electromechanical Control Technology, Electronic Product Manufacturing Engineering and Automobile Maintenance Technology, Advanced Nursing and E-business. It has set up a number of labs, centers and practical training bases such as the “Guangdong Provincial Air-conditioning Products Quality Supervision and Test Station”, Guangdong Provincial Refrigeration Products Experimenting Center, and the Refrigeration Technology, Furniture Design & Manufacturing and Household Electrical Appliances Technology” practical training bases. The college is striving to build itself into a “digital college” of first-rate design, first-rate quality and first-rate education.

The college puts into practice its philosophy of “Upholding the People-Oriented Principle” with regard to such aspects as education orientation and function, training objectives, curricular systems and education modes. Through carrying out the practice of infiltration between liberal arts and natural sciences, and the combination of general and specialized education, the college helps the students form righteous world outlook, outlook on life and values. Meanwhile, by organizing varieties of cultural activities on campus, the college promotes and develops its campus culture.

The college carries out an open education system. Upholding the “integration of production, learning and research”, the college has set up its open network education center, its modern manufacturing training center, its technical training center, its technician-training center, its information management center and its productivity promotion center. The college is well on its way to becoming an engine for the promotion of productivity and social progress, and a cradle for pumping out top-quality students for profession.

Introduction to International cooperation
International Diploma Programs

In 2004, Shunde Polytechnic started 3-year Business Administration diploma program with BTEC (Business and Technology Education Commission), EDEXCEL, Britain. BTEC center was set up in Shunde Polytechnic. EDEXEL provides curriculum, teaching materials and training services and awards BTEC HND diploma to the students. Shunde Polytechnic BTEC center is responsible for students’ recruitment and teaching affairs. BTEC graduates will be awarded two diplomas, one from Shunde Polytechnic and another from BTEC.

In 2005, Shunde Polytechnic begins cooperation with Northern Sydney Institute, one of the TAFE colleges in Australia. The cooperation focuses on Logistics Management and Electronic Commerce, which are also 3-year diploma programs. The cooperation mode with TAFE is similar to that with BTEC.

As both BTEC and TAFE courses are taught in dual languages, English and Chinese, Shunde Polytechnic makes plans on sending teachers to study abroad or get training services from BTEC and TAFE.

Academic Exchange
Shunde Polytechnic has signed a number of cooperation agreements with foreign institutes of higher learning such as Network Medical and Gateway community college in the USA, Greenwich University and Glamorgan University in the UK, on teachers and students exchange.

Shunde Polytechnic sends more than 50 teachers and groups of students yearly to study abroad to have placement training. Benefiting from the agreements between Shunde Polytechnic and oversea universities, Shunde Polytechnic graduates have good opportunities studying abroad for Bachelor Degree and master degree.
