Approved by the Ministry of Education, Geng-dan Institute of Beijing University of Technology (BGD) was founded in July, 2005 under the cooperation between Beijing University of Technology (BUT) and Beijing Gengdan Education Development Center. BGD is a full-time undergraduate institution runs regular under new mechanism and new mode.

BGD adopted its present name from the Chinese Communist Party’s early educator, revolutionist, martyr Geng Dan who obtained Doctor Degree from England. The campus locates in Beijing, Shunyi district, which is the famous manufacturing base for high-tech industries, the capital airport logistics base, microelectronics production base in China’s northern region. The place is easy of access.

The campus covers an area of 500 mu (1/15 of a hectare), half of which is afforested by cypresses, scholar trees, cherry trees, etc. The floor area is nearly 200,000 square meters and the advanced, all-purpose installations create a first-class learning and living conditions.

BUTGI is based on BUT. The BUT is in charge of the teaching quality control and management. Relying on the abundant teaching resources and managerial experience, a vibrant faculty has been built. The institute established a team of full time teachers together with part-time teachers under a new operating system.

Taking full advantage of the capital’s comprehensive school advantage, BUTGI establish its majors in accordance with the short-term regional economic development and adjust its curriculum, teaching plan and practice according to the industry’s requirement of talents’ knowledge structure. Currently, there are 37 undergraduate majores in six different departments: Department of Information Engineering, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Administration, Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Department of Basic Courses. We have students form all over the country. After graduation, students will be awarded the diploma of BGD issued by our state and those qualified students will be awarded their Bachelor’s degree by the Degree Committee of BGD.

Our institute aims at cultivating all-round talents with practical capability, excellent morality, healthy build, broad horizon, solid foundation, various culture knowledge, professional skills, a good master of foreign languages and computer, the ability to develop oneself and communicate with others, problems solving ability and innovative spirit. Our ultimate goal is to improve the students’ all-round capability and competitive ability.

BGD fulfills the educational policies of the party, and endeavors to create values for students, laying the foundation for greater development. The institute strives for being the first-class in students’ cultivation, management, employment, and campus building. We struggle to build a first-class Independent Institute in five to ten years.
