Founded in 1991, Carmel has quickly grown from a playgroup of a dozen children into one of Hong Kong's leading international schools. After several moves around Hong Kong Island, the School is now based in two campuses in the Mid-Levels area of Hong Kong, adjacent to the Central business district.

As a community school, Carmel's diverse student body reflects the rich heritage of Hong Kong's Jewish population. Most students come from the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom, with other families coming from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, India, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand and elsewhere. The School's faculty are also from a variety of countries.

Carmel School, East Asia's only Jewish day school, is committed to offering the highest level of secular education and first-rate religious instruction. By maintaining small classes and an exceptional teaching staff, Carmel has won a proud reputation for providing a warm, nurturing environment in which children are taught and cared for as individuals.

In 2001, Carmel became Hong Kong's first school to receive a six-year certification of academic accreditation from a leading international accreditation body in its initial year of eligibility. In its citation, the California-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges - the primary accrediting body for schools on the West Coast of the U.S. and in Asia - praised Carmel's superior teaching and creative, energetic atmosphere.

While Carmel's success is attested to by its happy students and strongly committed parent body, it is also demonstrated by strong, objective measures of achievement. Standardized test scores of Carmel students are exceptionally high, and students have returned to top-tier private schools in North America, the U. K. and Israel and excelled.

Campuses:
Carmel School is situated on two campuses. The Pre-School for children ages 3 to 5 occupies two floors at the modern Jewish Community Center, located on Robinson Road, Mid-Levels. In addition to comfortable sunny classrooms, the facility offers a playground, swimming pool and gymnasium.

The Primary and Middle Schools are located on the Borrett Road campus, a lovely colonial-era structure, amid old-growth trees, with high ceilings, broad corridors and modern facilities. Over the last few years, the facilities have been enhanced significantly with a state-of-the-art science laboratory and computer center.

Both campuses are located in residential areas that are popular with expatriate families and are near the territory's main religious congregations.
