$$ Salaries & People - in China $$
In Response To: How to recognise a scam *Link* (Larry Romanoff)

Dear friends,

I just returned from China. Before getting there, I used to get many job offers a day (as response to my ads on the Net). Then the salaries I was offered were from 3,000 to 5,000 Yuan (RMB) a month.

Taking the advice of a teacher who had just come back from China, I flew to China to look for jobs, there. I arrived in Guangzhou that is the largest city in South, and rented an apartment for USD 80/ month. From there I had plenty of time to look for jobs.

There I did not see any jobs with salaries less than 7,000 Yuan a month, and of course free accommodation, health care, etc are added to that. There, there are great jobs that even pay Y12,000 a month. If you are a school teacher in your country you can even get jobs teaching at international K-8 or K-12 schools with pays from Y15,000 to Y35,000 a month; but those are rare to come by.

In China, people are more trustworthy in smaller places that are least effected by migration. Be careful in bigger cities, since there are more gangs and more things to beware of.
Canton (Guangdong) in south-east has its own language and its own culture. Some may prefer the softer yet more widespread cultures and language of – Mandarin. In that case try other provinces.

Small places in China can be backwards-looking, while big cities look like cities in Switzerland, but with a 3rd world culture. So there are a lot of new-rich people and fashion-based culture to handle.

It is normal, even for the kindest Chinese I have met, to assume that all the evils come from lack of money and all human goodness is somehow related to having money. So, don’t expect to get blasted by the humble Buddhist culture there!!

Get to know the language and people at deeper levels, before making any romantic or business commitments! You won’t be sorry if you do so! It is foolproof!

Get good jobs and live happily!
