On A Guilin Tour - Little Know Guilin
By:Huiya Chen

Located in the northeast corner of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin is hailed by many as the most picturesque city in China. The city has been a famous destination for over centuries and is world renowned for its breathtaking landscape.

Any trip to China is not complete without a visit to picturesque Guilin. The serene landscape, Karst lime stones formations, bamboo groves and mist-covered hills together with wonderful caves make Guilin such an attraction for tourists.

The name of the city is derived from the cassia tree called 'Guihuashu' in Chinese. One can see the green cassia trees standing at the most roadsides in the town. When the autumn comes, the fragrance of the blossom fills up the air making passengers refreshing and relaxed. In addition, the golden flowers are very pleasing to the eyes.

Li River is definitely the gem of Guilin. The amazing landscapes of Li River make you feel as though you have stepped into a living traditional Chinese painting. Along the Li River, visitors are inspired by the picturesque mountains, peaceful green fields, crystal-clear water, lush bamboos and villages with water buffaloes. Guilin also is the home to more than ten ethnic groups, such as Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Hui and Dong. The Longji Rice Terraces is the best place to get a face to face touch with ethnic people and their customs.

Splendor water-mountain scenery: The scenic 4 hours Li River cruise will carry you away from the bustle of city life and into a peaceful and relaxing world. The Reed Flute Cave, called as "Art Palace of the Nature", is full with a myriad of stalactites and stalagmites formulating various bizarre scenes. The Elephant Trunk Hill, symbol of Guilin, looks like a giant elephant with a long trunk drinking along the Li River.

Shopper's paradise: A wide array of beautifully local arts and crafts fills the street markets and luxurious stores around the city, including: landscape paintings, pottery, porcelain, wood and bamboo sculptures, hand-painted folding screens and embroidered balls, etc.

Hopping nightlife: At night Guilin is especially lovely when the lights are lit. The night life in Guilin has a unique glamour. The Two Rivers and Four Lakes Scenic Area is one of the favorite places to stroll in the evening for visitors and residents alike. The two rivers refer to Li River and the Peach Blossom River. The four lakes refer to Mulong Lake, Gui Lake, Rong Lake and Shan Lake. There are cruises available at night. The evening experience in Guilin just brings anyone fun and possibly a little surprise!

Delicious local snacks and dishes: Being home to many ethnic groups, Guiilin has a variety of ethnic local delicacy. Guilin Rice Noodle is a famous local delicacy and can be served as most local's breakfast.
