How Chinese Characters Account for Short Sights
By:Charley Pein

More and more Chinese men are getting short sights, there are already many. They generally got more school educations, which means, they have read many Chinese books. Do their short sights have some relations with the Chinese materials?

Eyesight problems always come from the eyes' tiredness. And the Chinese characters are more likely to let the eyes into tired state. Why? The reason is the characters have different resolutions; they have different number of strokes, which are elements that form Chinese characters by various combinations. From one stroke to several, even tens of strokes! As a result, if you want to see clearly what the character is made up of, such to catch its meaning, some characters require you to see from nearer distances, and some from farther distances. At common situations, people read from fixed distances, thus there must be some characters seen in too near and some seen in too far. Reading Chinese materials in this way, they are easily to get eyes tired. At this time, the person must have some rest for his or her eyes to recover. However, most students want to get high scores and are competing with others, so they give up resting and continue to read with tiredness, after a long time their eyesight is going poorer and poorer.

In comparison to Chinese, English letters have similar resolutions, so English men have not so high short-sight rate among the frequently-reading people. The situations among Latin-letter nations are similar. In Japan, the short-sight rate is very high, Japanese men use Chinese characters too, mixed with Japanese characters, the resolutions of Japanese materials is varying much too.

As mentioned above, the character's resolution property accounts for short sight problem, how to tackle the problem, there are two ways. First, don’t see articles written in these characters. Second, stop reading when your eyes feel tired.
