Travel, Teach, Live in China

Find a Job That Has a Chance of Travel to China
By:Elizabeth Carrillo

A job that includes travel to China can be an exciting challenge to some. Before applying for jobs that involve a definite possibility or requirement to China, it is recommended to visit the country first, and get a sense of the people and the culture. When looking for this type of job, prepare for multiple interviews, and have solid references prepared. Entry into China requires a visa. Start the process for a work visa in China 30 to 60 days before the planned departure date.

Search English teaching jobs. English teachers are in high demand in China. Oftentimes, schools are looking for people who are native-born U.S. speakers. Sites like Dave's ESL Cafe are reputable and a good place to look for teaching jobs. Employment as an English teacher can range from a few months to year-long contracts. Most schools pay for travel to China, provide free housing, and offer a competitive salary.

Visit the websites of international companies that have offices in China, or do business with China. The US-China Business Council is a non-profit organization of US companies that do business with China. It has a list on its website of member companies. Most of the businesses listed have Human Resource Departments that can be contacted directly through each company's website.

Research opportunities with US non-profits that do work in China, or do work to support people in need in China. The website idealist.org provides a comprehensive data base for job seekers, as as volunteer openings.
