Uluru

Soak yourself in the aboriginal culture and history with a visit to Uluru. Uluru is one of world's greatest natural wonders. This sandstone formation stands over 1,140 ft high and 2,831 ft above sea level with two thirds of its bulk below the ground, and measures 9.4 km around the base.

The rock is noteworthy for appearing to change colour at different times of the day when sunbeams strikes it surface. It is a particularly extraordinary sight during sunset when it appears to glow red.

Uluru and the surrounding area is home to the aboriginal Anangu people. The rock is of great sacred and cultural significance to the Anangu and they prefer tourists not to climb to the top of the rock.

Fraser Island

Located just off the coast from Hervey Bay, World Heritage Listed Fraser Island is over 120 kilometres long and over 30 kilometers across. Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world and the only place on the planet where rain forest are found growing on sand.

Fraser Island is scattered with over 100 freshwater lakes with the most famous being Lake McKenzie. Its one of the most serene and stunning places you can imagine and it will inspire, it's a great place to have a picnic, bathe in its pristine waters or just relax on the Golden White Sand.

'The 75 mile beach' runs along most of the east coast of Fraser Island. I'd avoid entering the sea here though as off the coast of Fraser Island is a known breeding area for the aggressive Tiger Shark. Definitely worth a visit though is Indian Head and the Maheno Shipwreck along the great beach, it's a good place for a photo as well. Be on the look out Dingoes, these dogs are some of the last pure breed dingoes remaining in Eastern Australia. However, visitors are advised not to feed or encourage them and recently their numbers have been culled.

Daintree Rain Forest and Cape Tribulation

Visit the oldest rain forest in the world over one hundred and thirty-five million years old, stunning beauty, somewhere that contains the highest number of plant and animal species that are rare, or threatened with extinction, anywhere in the world. The Daintree Rain forest is located in the Far North of Queensland, visitors need to cross the crocodile inhabited Daintree River by ferry to access this tropical place.

The Daintree rain forest is another Australian entry on the World Heritage List being credited for its diversity and natural significance.

The Daintree offers untouched natural beauty, this is where you can experience picture postcard deserted golden beaches at cape tribulation or cow bay, fantastic Hiking Trails, remote wilderness and one of the most significant environmental areas in the world.

Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's biggest living structure and is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland.

The Great Barrier Reef contains 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of mollusc. It is also one of the last habitats for the extinction threatened Dugong. Port Douglas or Cairns is a good location to base yourself for exploring the reef. Taking a trip in a glass bottom boat is a great way to experience the reef, there are also a lot of diving and fishing excursions on offer.

Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National park is one of the most of the most important places for the aboriginal people and one of the best places to visit in Australia. The name 'Kakadu' comes from an Aboriginal floodplain language called Gagudju. Kakadu is an area of flat tropical Savannah woodland.

The Aboriginal people have occupied kakadu continuously for at least 40 000 years. Places to visit when in Kakadu are Jabiru, Nourlangie Rock, Ubirr, Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls, Yellow Waters, the South Alligator River and Waterfall Creek Nature Park. The best time to visit the park is in the wet season but unfortunately most of the park is closed to visitors. Probably the end of the dry season is the best time to get the most out of this Australian World Heritage site.

Ningaloo Reef

Located 1200 KM north of Perth and not as famous as its big brother 'The Great Barrier Reef' Ningaloo Reef is just as stunning. Ningaloo reef has been less dived, it is a virtually untouched barrier reef of 260km length protecting a shallow, brilliant white sandy lagoon of clear tropical waters. At Ningaloo you are able to walk from the beach straight onto a coral reef. The Ningaloo reef supports over 500 species of fish, 300 species of corals, and over 600 species of mollusk's and is also a branch of the migratory routes for dugongs and humpback whales.

Bungle Bungle Range

The Bungle Bungle range is one of Australia's most captivating landmarks and the great place for an Australian Outback Adventure, it is located in the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park.

Access to the park is mostly limited to 4WD vehicles but scenic flights can also be taken to view these famous 'bee-hive' rock formations. This Area of Western Australia is also of great cultural and spiritual significance to local aboriginals which dates back 20,000 years.

Great Ocean Road

Take a drive along the 273Km breath-taking coastline known as 'The Great Ocean Road'. This is without a doubt one of the most unforgettable scenic drives in the world. Stop off and view the famous Twelve Apostles a gathering of limestone rocks along the route. Stop at the famous Bells Beach and watch the surfers catch a few waves or just take some photos, you might be lucky to catch a surf comp. (Featured in the movie Point Break)

Visit towns like Torquay a popular surfing spot, Lorne and Apollo Bay, the coastal cities of Geelong and Warrnambool. Indulge in water based activities or take in some maritime history or merely enjoy the stunning scenery.

The Sydney Opera House

Situated in Sydney Harbor at Bennelong Point it surely is a must see visit for anyone coming to Sydney. I'd advise taking one of the one hour guided tours or if your in town long enough going to one of the shows. The Opera House is located near Circular Quay where one can enjoy a coffee at the most famous harbor in the world. If you're in town long enough why not actually go to an event at the opera house, plays and music recitals are regularly on the at the Opera House.

Bondi Beach

Last but not least, you cant go to Australia and not visit Bondi Beach. Home of the first 'Surf Life Saving Club'. Bondi is an experience that no-one should miss out on, it's a place that will linger long in your memories, enjoy a coffee at one of the many funky cafes, go for a swim or surf or visit the many shops along the main strip.
