How to Travel to Fiji From Australia
By:Kenneth W. Michael Wills

There are two ways to get from Australia to Fiji: by air and by sea. Traveling by air is fairly simple, but traveling by sea proves rather limited. Traveling is the easy part, however. If you are planning such a trip, keep in mind that Fiji went through political turmoil in 2006 and currently operates under an emergency form of government that was extended indefinitely and gives the police and military extraordinary power. There is regular political unrest and mass demonstrations, along with an upswing in crime targeting foreigners and tourists.

Gather all your travel documents and apply for a visa if required. While many nationalities may travel to Fiji without applying for a visa, under the Visa Waiver Program, some nationalities still need a visa to enter the islands. Check with the Fiji Consulate where you live to verify travel requirements.

All nationalities will need a passport with six months' validity to enter the country and need to provide the passport number when making travel arrangements.

Book a flight from Australia to Fiji. There are a number of carriers both nationally in Australia, as well as international carriers that provide direct flights to Fiji. Airlines range from budget to private flights. You must book a round-trip ticket, unless you are a citizen, permanent resident or are permitted to stay in Fiji for an approved, extended stay.

Book a cruise or yacht trip that includes traveling and exploring Fiji. There are a number of national and international cruise firms and yachting clubs that provide direct and stop-over service to Fiji. If only visiting, you must provide evidence such as an itinerary showing your next destination.
