English schools in the USA and Canada

Colorado - Denver
School:Denver International School

Every day at the Denver International School, talented and diverse students from 3-years-old through 5th grade and representing nearly 30 nationalities, come together and are immersed in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese or French with native-speaking teaching staff. Beginning in 1st grade, a solid English curriculum complements the students’ studies and prepares them for any educational environment that follows their dual language education at DIS. It is our goal to nurture these students into bilingual, independent, global citizens who will be future leaders.

Denver International School is an independent, nonprofit school that fulfills the highest educational standards of the United States, while creating better world citizens through language immersion and bilingual education, multicultural exposure and character development.

Denver International School offers a pre-k through 5th grade program. Pre-K and Kindergarten are full immersion classes in French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese, while grade one through five offer a bilingual French-English, Spanish-English or Mandarin Chinese-English program.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM:
At DIS, time allotted for study in the English Language Program during the school week ranges from 20% of school time in 1st grade, 30% in grades 2 and 3, to 50% from 4th grade and upwards. At no grade level will a student receive 100% instruction in the English Language curriculum. The mission and core values at DIS are intended to provide a bi-lingual education. The central goal at DIS is that students become fluent in a foreign language, other than English, during their elementary school years.

However, as well as achieving fluency in a second language, the academic skills needed to meet the Colorado State Standards are learned across the different language programs. The integrated curricula at DIS, in whatever language and at whatever grade level, are designed to provide full and comprehensive academic instruction in all areas.
