Position: Kindergarten English Language Teacher
Reporting to: Head of English Language Program
Matrix Reporting Structure: Classroom Montessori Directress
Location: Beijing

We are looking for highly capable, motivated Kindergarten teachers who are native English speakers and want to learn and contribute to the development of our unique bilingual Montessori Kindergartens in Beijing.

The Family Learning House was established in 2002 with the mission of educating for a better world. We provide not only English and Chinese learning through a Montessori environment, but focus greatly on character education through our own curriculum which is now used globally, integrate the study of a different country and culture monthly, and also nurture the creativity of our children with our unique arts and music programs. We have two very beautiful and inspiring schools in Beijing with 400+ students aged 2-6, and 150 staff in total. The English Language Kindergarten teachers will be part of a teaching team in each classroom (team of 4 per classroom) and will lead the English dominant morning including a daily English circle, will provide small group English classes to children each week, and support the Montessori Directress and overall school activities, family events and administration.

Role:

1. Lead the English Dominant Morning including an English Circle Time
• Welcome and politely greet each child as they arrive in the morning, helping them develop courtesy and friendliness
• Coordinate with the Montessori Directress about the learning needs of each child, and their focus
• Support the Directress to guide the children with their Montessori work and help with any presentations or activities in English
• Based on the English curriculum, monthly cultural theme, and the virtues curriculum, provide an inspiring and interactive daily lessons and circle times for your classroom e.g. music, learning game, interactive storytelling.
• Lead creative outdoor activities with your class and supporting teachers
• Help foster polite manners with the children as they have a sit down lunch together with fresh flowers, placemats and candles
• Engage in singing the school songs (based our Virtues, Quotation, and TFLH CD’s) in your circle times or when walking with the children through the school
• Connect with each child to understand and develop their innate potential, using techniques that nurture their good qualities

2. Provide Differentiated English Language Classes
• Conduct assessments for all new children to place them in the appropriate learning groups
• Prepare and submit lesson plans every 2 weeks based on the English curriculum
• Facilitate engaging English Language pull out classes, using moderate technology as an aid
• Keep files on the English Learning Progress of each child
• Reflect with the English team to share ideas and challenges and work in a mutually supportive environment to provide a high quality English Program to all students
• Ensure the classroom has the necessary resources and books for the English Program, or communicate any needs to the English Program Leader
• Contribute by sharing lesson plan ideas and activities for the whole team to learn and use

3. Provide Administrative Support
• Prepare progress reports for each child twice annually
• Present feedback on the child’s English learning at parent teacher conferences
• Communicate any challenges/feedback regarding a child to the Directress
• Actively contribute in daily classroom reflection meetings with the classroom team
• Use your skills and passion in one support area – e.g. English communication letters, English library, Maker Space, World Citizenship, Sports, English @ home videos etc.
• If teachers are sick, fill in to support other classrooms as needed

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year teaching experience, but more experience preferred
• Must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree (Education degree preferred)
• Must possess Teaching certification, Montessori certification or TOEFL/TESOL
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to work in a multicultural team
• Possesses a learning attitude and growth mindset
• Is a role model of good character and fully supports holistic education including virtues and service learning
• Highly organised and responsible
• Experience in China is preferred
